We believe that AI can truly transform our world and our lives for the better. But that is only achievable if the people that work in and around the field are truly diverse.

And by diverse, we mean diversity of gender, race, sexual orientation, physical ability, neurodivergence, age, socio-economic background, education and thought.

The homogeneity of the field of AI and the wider tech sector is a widely recognised problem and is the root cause of many of the negative impacts of AI.

We want to change this.

We know we are not alone in this endeavour but we want to play our part.

We work in AI and we want to help change the field for the better.

Attract diverse talent into the field of AI through education, mentorship and community empowerment programmes

Support, champion and empower diverse talent already working in AI

Promote ethical and responsible AI development through research projects representing the views of diverse communities through active participatory mechanisms

Diverse AI is run by volunteers and its activities are driven by its founders and a team of project leads passionate about the mission.

COMMUNITY

Our activities will kick off with community building. We want to build a safe and vibrant community in the UK for the diverse people that work in AI. We want to bring them together to support each other, learn from each other and collaborate with each other to ensure a positive AI future for everyone.

With this community we will hold events, provide learning and development opportunities, establish a mentoring programme, and get them involved in activities that they are passionate about.

COLLABORATE

Establishing strong relationships with partners, sponsors and collaborators is key to achieving our aims, we cannot do this on our own. We will set out to build these relationships to enable the delivery of education, training, outreach, community participation and research programmes.

CHAMPION

We will champion and celebrate the diverse people already working in AI, ensuring that they get an opportunity to shine. We will build a publicly available membership directory of the incredible diverse talent already working in AI so that there can be no excuse for the lack of diversity at events or in projects. We will celebrate our members as role models for people looking to enter AI.
